That is why we have structured the scheduling of our two BUs, <strong>&#8220;Moldmaking<\/strong> &#8221; and <strong>&#8220;Molding<\/strong>,&#8221; in an integrated way. <\/p>\n\n<p>Oggi operiamo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meccanostampi.it\/en\/from-floor-to-press-multi-project-management-that-keeps-its-promises\/\">con una <strong>piattaforma di multi-project management<\/strong><\/a> per l\u2019attrezzeria (progettazione, costruzione, collaudo stampi e controllo campionature) e con un <strong>sistema avanzato di pianificazione e schedulazione (APS)<\/strong> per i reparti di stampaggio. L\u2019obiettivo \u00e8 uno: <strong>ottimizzare tutte le risorse<\/strong>, tecniche, umane e impiantistiche, e dare ai clienti <strong>affidabilit\u00e0 sulle date<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Goals: reliable dates, saturated facilities, working capital under control<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Our operational goal is twofold: <strong>to meet the required delivery date-even when it is challenging-and<\/strong> <strong>to saturate production facilities<\/strong> by optimizing available resources. In parallel, we aim to <strong>reduce inventory levels<\/strong> so as to limit capital tied up and make the chain leaner and more responsive. <\/p>\n\n<p>Since <strong>2022<\/strong>, we have been using an <strong>APS system<\/strong> to govern the entire cycle-from sales forecasts and <em>what-if<\/em> simulations to <strong>finite-capacity detail scheduling<\/strong> on presses, tooling, and auxiliary resources.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The starting point: standardizing methods and pooling know-how<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Before the adoption of the ODA, we defined some cornerstones:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Standardize working methods<\/strong> and <strong>track know-how<\/strong> within shared tools (integration with ERP).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reduce<\/strong> outdated <strong>&#8220;homemade&#8221; applications<\/strong> and replace them with a single reliable data source.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Generate stable plans<\/strong>, maximizing the use of available resources.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Unify<\/strong> finite-capacity planning and scheduling <strong>in one office<\/strong> to intercept <strong>upstream<\/strong> errors and potential bottlenecks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plan plant and mold <strong>maintenance<\/strong>, putting it on a schedule without unforeseen impacts on production.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>The expectation: <strong>more plant efficiency<\/strong>, less waiting time, and <strong>more production capacity<\/strong> for the same assets.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Grounding: solid data, clear flows, rapid scenarios<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>To make ODA effective, we worked on three fronts:<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>1) Data and additions.<\/strong><strong><br\/><\/strong>We <strong>analyzed and coded<\/strong> essential data for planning: injection molding, manual machining (internal and external), materials, setup times, tooling constraints.<strong>ERP<\/strong> became the <strong>primary source<\/strong> with which APS dialogues to import demand, inventory, orders and master data. <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>2) Process and accountability.<\/strong><strong><br\/><\/strong>We have <strong>redefined the order review flow<\/strong>, clarifying roles and timelines. The ODA acts as a <strong>proactive engine<\/strong>: it develops <strong>production and purchasing proposals<\/strong> consistent with actual needs, available capacity and customer priorities. <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>3) Simulation and Decision Making.<\/strong><strong><br\/><\/strong>Using <strong>&#8220;what-if&#8221; simulations,<\/strong> planners evaluate alternative scenarios (urgencies, unavailability, forecast changes) <strong>in seconds<\/strong>, choosing the sequence that maximizes <strong>On-Time Delivery<\/strong> and press <strong>saturation<\/strong> while minimizing setup and waste.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How daily life on the ward is changing<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>On the shop floor, the first difference you notice is <strong>clarity on material availability.<\/strong> Integration between ERP and advanced planning allows actual inventories and destinations to orders to be verified at a glance; as a result, the purchasing department receives <g id=\"gid_1\">daily updated MRP proposals<\/g> that are perfectly aligned with production requirements. This eliminates uncertainties, speeds up decisions, and reduces inter-office bouncing.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The same transparency is reflected in <strong>lead times<\/strong>: by having a single view of <strong>all press loads<\/strong> and necessary <strong>tooling<\/strong>, planners can <strong>confirm precise dates<\/strong> to customers and track compliance throughout the cycle, with targeted interventions if critical issues emerge. <strong>Plans become more robust<\/strong>: timely management of action messages &#8211; advances, reschedules, postponements &#8211; optimizes unavailability calendars (presses, dies, resources) and <strong>cuts downtime<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Forecasts<\/strong> are also under control. Changes in customer schedules are automatically analyzed and compared with current inventories and plans; the system proposes <g id=\"gid_1\">concrete actions<\/g> to safeguard delivery dates, avoiding unnecessary accumulations or sudden shortages. In practice, there is a shift from reactive management to <strong>preventive direction of<\/strong> the production flow.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The results: more customer value, more high-impact time<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>This evolution frees up <strong>quality time<\/strong>: planners no longer have to manually &#8220;adjust&#8221; plans and can focus on <strong>optimization<\/strong> and <strong>continuous improvement<\/strong>. The customer immediately feels the benefit: <strong>accurately estimated dates<\/strong>, <strong>proactive<\/strong> communication about any deviations, and, when needed, <strong>alternatives<\/strong> such as splits or partial batches shared in advance. <\/p>\n\n<p>Organizationally, the team works with a <strong>common method<\/strong>: clear rules, unambiguous data, defined responsibilities. And when <strong>unforeseen events<\/strong> come up-breaks, emergencies, mix changes-scheduling is <strong>quick and data-driven<\/strong>, keeping the two goals firm: <strong>satisfying the customer<\/strong> and <strong>optimizing resources.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why it matters to those who choose us<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Reliable dates even on complex orders.<\/strong> Finite capacity makes the promise <strong>executable<\/strong>, not just estimated.<br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>More saturated plants, lighter warehouses.<\/strong> Realistic plans mean <strong>less waiting<\/strong>, <strong>less WIP<\/strong> and <strong>less capital tied up<\/strong>.<br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Data-driven decisions.<\/strong> From forecast to press, every choice is <strong>traceable<\/strong> and <strong>measurable<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Advanced planning is not just technology: it is <strong>process discipline<\/strong> and <strong>data culture<\/strong>.
